Amateur Choristers

For several years now, amateur choristers have been invited to join professional musicians and choristers to perform a few movements of a work during the opening concert of the Montreal Baroque Festival, resulting in flamboyant performances that are unforgettable.

This year, the Grand Chœur will take part in the grand opening concert ODE TO THUNDER, on June 19, 7pm, at Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours (400, Saint-Paul East, Stresst, Champ-de-Mars metro). Lisbon is destroyed by flood and fire! In 1755 an unprecedented storm blitzed Portugal leaving destruction in its wake. In far-away Hamburg, Georg Philipp Telemann, inspired by tales of the storm, set the story to music in his Donnerode (Ode to thunder), giving his audiences a vivid depiction of this catastrophe which was seen at the time as the manifestation of the immense force of the Creator.
