Operatic Fluidity - discussion and mini-concert

free activity
Free activity with countertenor Ian Sabourin, the harpsichordist and director of Arion Baroque Orchestra Hank Knox, the stage director Thomas Ayouti and the flautist and co-artistic director of the Montreal Baroque Festival Vincent Lauzer
-

This event delves into the world of the true 18th century superstars - castrati, to whom Georg Friedrich Handel dedicated some of his greatest operatic roles. Today, these roles are sung by both male and female voices, creating interesting contrasts and unique colours that give the shine different lights on the characters.

Ian Sabourin, young countertenor and rising operatic star, and Hank Knox, harpsichordist and conductor of Arion Baroque Orchestra, will perform some of Handel's arias. Thomas Ayouti (stage director of Fluidité opératique) and Vincent Lauzer (co-artistic director of the Montreal Baroque Festival) will discuss the repertoire and concepts behind the concert, giving a voice to members of Montreal's 2SLGBTQI+ community.

This free event is made possible by the City of Montreal's Programme de soutien financier aux initiatives culturelles de l'arrondissement Ville-Marie.
