A determining moment in musical history, the birth of the opera took place at the end of the 16th century. This aria is by the renowned singer, composer and founding father of opera, Jacopo Peri. A huge leap from centuries of polyphony, this aria performed by soprano Hannah De Priest and Antoine Malette-Chénier, typifies the Style Nuovo with its intimate dialogue between voice and harp.
ABOUT ANTOINE
Performing repertoire from the Renaissance to today, Antoine Malette-Chénier is renowned for his innovative and creative performances on instruments appropriate to each era. Principle harpist with l’Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières, he is an accomplished soloist, chamber musician and continuo player. In Montreal he performs regularly with Les Voix humaines, the Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal and Orchestre Métropolitain.
ABOUT HANNAH
With her “sparkling technique” and “shining tone,” emerging soprano Hannah De Priest is rapidly gaining recognition for her skillful performances of music from the high baroque to today. In the spring of 2017, Hannah graduated with an M.Mus in vocal performance from McGill University. Based in Chicago, Hannah is an active freelancer in the region and enjoys a close collaboration with Ars Musica Chicago.
