Comedian, Anne Millaire joins Les Boréades for an intimate concert to tell six tales from around the world describing the power of music and the invention of a bevy of diverse instruments. To illustrate the stories, two explorers, Francis Colpron and Christophe Gauthier, will share the joys of 17th, 18th and 20th century musical masterpieces.
After music and dance, Anne Millaire trained in theater. Although she was associated with le Nouveau Théâtre Experimental de Montréal in particular, a master's degree in drama and doctoral schooling in Literary Studies equipped her to produce, design, write and create her own shows. Also combining multimedia and multidisciplinary aspects, several collaborations produce hybrid shows and concerts that she creates and directs. The teaching of dramaturgy also became her second combat horse. She completes the sharing of her passions by presenting conferences or talks surrounding the history of Quebec theater and its dramaturgy.
Recorder and traverso player Francis Colpron is recognized as one of the most talented musicians of his generation. During the past three decades, the public, critics, and cultural authorities have acclaimed his abilities to innovate as an artist and performer. In 1991, he founded the ensemble Les Boréades de Montréal, of which he is the artistic director, and which puts on a very successful annual concert series in Montreal, performs in North America and Europe, and records on the ATMA Classique label.
Francis Colpron was associate flutist with Trinity Consort of Portland from 2000 to 2009. He has been a guest soloist with groups such as Apollo’s Fire of Cleveland, the Edmonton Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Opera Atelier, Thirteen Strings, the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, Les Violons du Roy, the Nova Scotia Orchestra, and L’Harmonie des Saisons. As well as teaching at the Université de Montréal, he is frequently invited to share his experience as a teacher at well known summer music camps such as Amherst in the United States, CAMMAC in Quebec, and Boxwood in Nova Scotia.
Born in Montreal, Christophe Gauthier completed his studies at the Conservatoire de Montréal and his bachelor's and master's at Université de Montréal. His talents as a chamber musician have led Christophe Gauthier to participate in the founding of numerous ensembles, including the Rendez-vous baroque français (Montreal) and the Consort Laurentien (Basel), which performed at the Utrecht Early Music Festival (Netherlands) in summer 2021. He also performs as organist and harpsichordist with the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, Arion orchestre baroque, I Musici de Montréal, and the Orchestre Métropolitain, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
Christophe Gauthier teaches organ and harpsichord at the Cégep de Saint-Laurent. He is regularly invited to teach at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance (Nova Scotia). Occasionally called upon to conduct ensembles from the harpsichord, he is also the choral conductor for the Ensemble vocal Vivace. His operatic credits include Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Handel's Hercules and Charpentier's David and Jonathas. He can be heard every week on Radio VM, at the helm of the Musique classique program.
