2017 is a year of anniversaries: Montreal's 375th, Canada's 150th and Montreal Baroque's 15th! 2017 is also the 220th anniversary of the first circus ever in Montreal.
The Royal Circus, founded by John Bill Ricketts, an equestrian artist from England, began its Canadian tour in Montreal in September 1797, treating its audience to demonstrations of equestrian prowess, theatrics, buffoonery and breathtaking feats of derring-do!
To celebrate Montreal in 2017 and its revered status in the circus world, the theme chosen for the 15th MONTREAL BAROQUE FESTIVAL is CIRQUE MUSICAL CIRCUS. The stage is set for the musical acrobats, the trumpet clowns and fiddling fools of the king! Hold your breath lest the acrobats and tightrope walkers fall, and watch out for other circus surprises throughout the festival. Musicians of great daring and virtuosity will not fail to delight with their participation in this baroque spectacle.
All that is needed is you to complete the festivities, to be held from June 22 until June 25, 2017. With fourteen indoor concerts, a multitude of outdoor events and the thrill of the circus, now it the time to check our programme, book your tickets and come celebrate with us!
