Aleks Schürmer offers a new vision of historically informed performance to include his own arrangement of Edward Elgar’s Chanson de Nuit et de Matin using Elgar’s original scores. Aleks on the appropriate flute, is joined by Pemi Paul on viola and Antoine Malette-Chénier on harp.
Aleks Schürmer is a Canadian composer, multi-instrumentalist, educator and artist who merges disparate genres, historical periods and multi-cultural elements in his work, exploring the underlying sameness of all things.
Pemi Paull, Canadian violist, has been performing extensively as a soloist and chamber musician, nationally and internationally, for more than 20 years, cultivating deep roots in Canada’s contemporary, historical, chamber music and improvised music communities, as well as Montreal’s indie community.
Performing repertoire from the Renaissance to today, Antoine Malette-Chénier is renowned for his innovative and creative performances on instruments appropriate to each era. Principle harpist with l’Orchestre symphonique de Trois-Rivières, he is an accomplished soloist, chamber musician and continuo player.
